son of Francois Delonais and Mary Rose Belgarde, married Mary Eva Lenoir, born May 16, 1916, daughter of Lewis Lenoir and Mary Emily Peltier. Eugene served in World War II. He died at the age of 36 in an accident. Their children are Maxine (Mrs. Stanley Gourneau), Gloria (Mrs. Gary Gourneau), Eugene Devere and Esther (Mrs. Joe Wilkie). EUGENE DEVERE DELONAIS — JUDITH ANN GOURNEAU Eugene Devere Delonais, born October 15, 1941, son of Norbert Delonais and Mary Eva Lenoir, married Judith Ann Gourneau, born February 20, 1946, daughter of Alexander Emil Gourneau and Emily Ernestine Brunelle, on January 25, 1963 in Palo Alto, California. Eugene and Judy were born and raised in the Belcourt area. Eugene works as a sheet metal worker. Judy is a Parent Coordinator at the Turtle Mountain Community School. They live five miles northwest of Belcourt on the Tower Road in a Turn-Key home. They had six children: Jackie (age 21), Jennifer Jean (deceased), Jessica Jean (age 10), Travis Eugene (deceased), Nicole Ann (age 5), Erik Franeciso (age 4) and one grandson, Chad Delonais, two years old. FRANK AND CLEOPHILE DELORME HISTORY Frank Delorme, whose Indian name was 'Ka osse' (meaning Huntsmen), was born on November 16, 1871, at St. Joseph, North Dakota, the son of Joseph Delorme and Angelique Gingras. Joseph, born 1841, was the son of Isabel Gourneau and Joseph Delorme Sr., who reportedly was killed during the Chippewa-Sioux land wars in the Northwest. Angelique, born in 1846, was the daughter of Scholastica Trothier and Anton Blanc Gingras. Her family was involved in fur trading and the Frank and Cleophile (Gladue) Delorme and daughter Adele Virginia Delorme. The Gingras trading post and homestead are presently being restored as a historical site at Walhalla, North Dakota. Besides Frank, other children born to Joseph and Angelique were; William, Joe 'Captain,' Frederick, Elise, Justine, LaRose, Mary Adele and twins, Angelique and Eliza who were the last surviving, until Eliza's death at the age of 99 in 1982 and Angelique's in 1983 at 100 years of age. Frank married Cleophile Gladue on February 15, 1882, at Belcourt, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Alexis Gladue (son of Charles Gladue and Theresa Gray) and Eliza Malaterre (daughter of Margaret Ward and Alexis Malaterre, son of Baptiste Malaterre and Jossett Briere). Cleo's family was among the Metis who settled in Saskatchewan, Canada, where she was born at Ft. Qu'Ap- pelle in 1871. As a young girl, Cleo was sent by the Gray Nuns of Montreal to one of their Indian Missions schools situated on the south shore of Devils Lake, North Dakota. The school burned down and was rebuilt at St. Michael's, North Dakota. An adept Latin student, Cleo was often rewarded by the nuns with trips on the side-wheeler 'Minnie H' when the nuns traveled by the historic boat to Devils 325 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
