Summary:He was united in marriage to Lillian Smith of Isabel Township on April 13, 1941 Lillian Brorby was born to the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Smith. Lillian grew to womanhood there and attended Isabel public school. There were born to this union five children: Larry, deceased; Arden, has one son, Kurt, and is now manager of the Farmers Union Oil station at Souris; Curtis, married, has one daughter, Celeste, and is now farming the Brorby farm; Cheryl, Mrs. Cary Lodl, North Bend, Neb.; Diane, attending Lake Region College, in Devils Lake. Mr. Brorby passed away on September 20, 1973. Larry served his country from August 5, 1960 to July 26, 1963. He passed away on October 31, 1970. SETHBROWN Another veteran of the Civil War in the Esmond area was Seth Brown who homesteaded in Isabel Township where he farmed for several years. Seth was from Pennsylvania, and was a good friend of the Sentmans of Esmond who also came from the Keystone State. After farming the land for a time Seth rented it out; later sold it to Olaf Titterud. Seth and his son both passed away and are buried in the Hesper cemetery. PETERBUNDY Peter Bundy came to America from Denmark as a young man and bought rights to some land in Isabel Township. Inga and her daughter Ruth came from Minneapolis and Inga married Pete Bundy. They farmed for several years. Then Mrs. Bundy went to Minneapolis, and Pete went to Wisconsin. There were three children born to this union: Mylo, Wallace and Thelma. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Bundy and Ruth have passed away. MR. AND MRS. ANTON BURKHARD Anton Burkhard was born February 16, 1888 at Strausburg, Russia and came to the United States in 1908 to Berwick. He worked for awhile before his marriage to Katherina Miltenburger of Berwick in 1911. She was the daughter of Jacob and Barbara Miltenburger. She was born July 12, 1891, in Strausburg, Russia. She was only 6 months when she came with her parents to the United States to Linton. They made their home at Berwick until the fall of 1926 when they moved to the Isabel area northeast of Esmond, where they lived until 1944. They moved to the Dry Lake area north of Devils Lake. In the fall of 1948 they moved into Devils Lake. Katherina passed away July 12, 1962. Anton Burkhard makes his home at the Lake Region I "'theran Home in Devils Lake. * 7 JONAS CARLSON Jonas Carlson was born in northern Sweden (Norrland) and came to the United States with his mother when a young man.
