He died August 8, 1960. Matthew Samuel Bedford was born July 9, 1898 at Brandon, Manitoba. He died July 11, 1955. Ida Mae Bedford was born May 5, 1901 at Fillmore. She married George Lewis Knutson (of Fillmore) on January 1, 1928 and they had three children. She died June 25, 1969. Clifford Bedford was born March 4, 1904 at Fillmore. He married Adeline Rosaia on June 4, 1934 at San Francisco, Calif, and they had one child. The Tri State Land Co. bought part of the homestead of Dave Bedford for the townsite of Fillmore. JENS A. BERGE FAMILY Jens A. Berge was born August 22, 1838 at Balestrand, Sogn, Norway. He married Synnove (Susan) Thompson in 1867. Synnove Thompson was born May 5, 1844 in Traana, Norway. She sailed for America with her family when she was nine years old. Her father and a sister died on board ship and the mother and two sisters went to Wisconsin to live with relatives. The mother soon married a Mr. Thompson in Minnesota. Synnova married Jens Berge, and they made their home near Rochester, Minn. In 1881 the family immigrated with two other families by covered wagon to Dakota. The oldest Berge daughter, Louisa (Mrs. Ole Bale) and a sister, Tina, who passed away later, had to help drive the cattle behind the covered wagon. Louisa was then only thirteen years old. The rest of the family came by train to Blanchard. When the wagon train came to Kasson, Minn, they were celebrating the "syttende Mai (May 17) Festival." The Berge family came to Beaver Creek Township, near Hatton in June, 1881 and settled there. They farmed in this area for several years. In 1900 Jens moved with part of his family westward and filed on a homestead in Benson County near what is now Fillmore. Jens died in his home on February 3, 1919 and Synnova died in April, 1923. Mr. and Mrs. Berge had nine children. Three of them died near Hatton. The names of two of those were Tina and Andrew Christopher. The oldest daughter was Louisa. She married Ole M. Bale and settled in the Hatton and Northwood communities. Louisa and Ole had four children: Annie, Marie, Serine and John. Annie died in infancy, Marie and Serine live in Moorhead, and John lives in Hatton in the home where Ole Bale passed away January 21, 1937. Louisa died December 16, 1954. The second daughter was Betsy. She married Haakon Agre, who worked on the railroad in Rugby. Haakon died in 1908. Betsy later married Ole Pearson who farmed near Rugby and later moved to a farm near Silva. They both lived in Silva at the time of their death. Betsy passed away April 4, 1951. Ole Pearson died in April, 1962. Betsy had one daughter who is Mrs. H.C. Olson of Fargo. Annie Berge married John Anderson, a section foreman in Rugby. They later moved to other towns, including Tilden. For several years the family lived in Fillmore where John continued his work as section foreman. Later they moved to Grano. From there they settled in Auburn, Wash., where they remained until their deaths. They had five children: Inga, Ella, Arvid, Jens and Anna. Arvfd died in infancy, Annie died in the late forties and John the following year. Hannah Berge married Iver Brenno. They had fifteen children. Four of the children died in infancy. The surviving children were: Henry, Olina, John, Stella, Thea, Theodore, Inga, Bora, Irvin, Herman and Ilet. Henry, Olina and Theodore are deceased. Iver and Hannah Brenno retired to Brinsmade where he died. Hannah died in Maddock Serina Berge married Andrew Okland. He farmed in the Silva area and was also a thresher for several years. They moved to Esmond where they made their home. Andrew passed away in the fall of 1953. Serina died in May, 1971. They had two children: Angel Joseph died in infancy and Alma married Ernest Georgeson of Esmond. They moved to California where Ernest later passed away. They had four children. Alma later married Robert McWilliams and they now live in North Hollywood, Calif. The youngest daughter was Tina Berge. 439 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi.
