OTP purchased the Aneta Light and Power Co. from Harry Long in 1926. Mr. Long stayed on as "local" superintendent. Purchase price was $15,000. Collections were made at the Aneta Bank, rates carried over from Long's Co. were 200 per KWH, 10cl for power, $1. minimum. City paid $50. for 3 street lights to burn all night with 29 street lights to burn until 11:30. Some customers owned their own meters because of the 250 per month charge if the company had to supply one. At present they have installed Mercury Vapor lights all over town. White Ways were installed by the city in 1953 on Main street and in 1969, Highway 32 thru town. Aneta Fire Department The Aneta Fire Department was formed Jan. 7, 1909. Before this in 1903, they used a four wheeled trailer powered by four men with a tank in the Center. The water was hand pumped. The first fire chief on record was Nick Johnston; Ass't Chief, W.T. Cameron, Engineer, John Forberg, Others on the roster at that time were: M.E. Sperry, Magnus Greenland, Halvor Hanson, P.P. Ravnsborg, Ray Gargrave, O.A. Raaen, C.J. Hendricks, G. E. Sloulin & Peter Barry. Present Chief is Joe Dunham, Ass't Chief, Dale Kleven. Sec'y Vincent Lippert. Rural chief is Bernard Lippert and Deloy Kiefat is rural Sec'y. Two trucks are equipped for rural and city service, with one truck remaining in town at all times. They provide resuscitator service when needed. In 1963 Ambulance service was extended thru the local department, for a nominal fee. The ambulance was purchased from Mr. T.A. Wonder. We have had great use for this in Aneta with the Center, the missile site, builders, Farmers Union Elevator while it was being built. They have an eight man team with Julious Ham as the Captain, Chuck Youells as Lt. About 80 runs have been made with the ambulance with very little trouble. * X'^C 46 Scanned with a Zeutschel Zeta book scanner at 300 dpi. Edited with Multi-Page TIFF Editor.
