The older kids took turns, two each day, drying the dishes and putting them away. When she had to bake things she did that at home and carried it to school. Oscar did janitor work at the school for a while, they were also members of the Ayr Lutheran Church. In December of 1944, they moved to Page, North Dakota. Berniece and Betty didn't want to go, but the folks didn't want them to stay alone during the winter. Berniece wanted to stay and finish her last half year and she also wanted to play basketball. Oscar and Mathilda managed a restaurant for Carl Aim. In June of 1 945, they bought the Page Hotel and Cafe from Margaret Ring. In July of 1 949, they sold the hotel to their son-in-law and daughter, Berniece. Oscar and Mathilda bought a home in Page. Oscar took over the beer tavern from Juddy Moug; they later took over the liquor store until his health forced him to sell. They were also members of the Page Lutheran Church. Mathilda was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Betty finished her school at Page her last Vk years. Berniece finished the last half of her senior year there. Oscarand Mathilda had seven children. Melvin and Arvid served in World War 11. They met for the first time in fouryears in a camp kitchen in Germany. Melvin got his training at Camp Roberts, California. He was stationed at Aleutian Island and also stationed at Koblenz, Germany. Arvid was stationed at Brunswick, Germany. He received his training at Fort Knox, Kentucky; and Fort Benning,Georgia. Heserved in NorthAfrica.Sicily, Italy, England, Normandy, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Melvin married Joyce Reitan. They have three daughters: Linda, Dianne, Nancy, and two sons, Kenneth and Randy. They also have thirteen grandchildren. At the present time, Joyce is living in the Heritage Home in Geneva, Nebraska. Arvid married Elsie Peterson and they had two sons, Allen and John. Arvid died at Stockton, California, on June 26, 1972. Mildred married Leslie Midlang and they have one daughter, Joanne, and one son, James. They have three grandchildren. A granddaughter is in the military service stationed in Korea. Lucille married Obert Hogen. They have two sons, Orville and Paul, and two daughters, Wendy and Carol. They have four grandchildren. Berniece married Sidney Holden and they have one son, Ronald, and two daughters, Robin and Diane, and two grandchildren. Betty married Clarence Rutherford. They have three daughters; Judy, Renee, and Brenda; one son Michael; and one granddaughter. Mathilda died February 5, 1960, and Oscar died April 11, 1962.(4-7-82) GERALD MOLTZAN-TERRIE HOVLAND Gerald Moltzan Family Kimberlee, Andrew, Gerald, Terrie, Michael Terrie Lou Hovland was born November 9, 1 952, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Arthur and Elaine Mallow Hovland. She grew up on the farm near Ayr, North Dakota, and attended grade school and high school at Buffalo, North Dakota, and graduated from there in 1970. Gerald Arthur Moltzan was born June 30, 1948, at Perham, Minnesota, to Henry and Bertha Wischnak Moltzan. He attended a country school near Vergas, M innesota, for six years and then the next six years were attended in Perham were he graduated from Perham High School in 1966. Terrie and Gerald were married July 2, 1971, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ayr. They now live near Vergas, where Gerald farms and does carpentry work. We have three children: Andrew Arthur born January 30,1974; Kimberlee Renee born January 27,1977; and Michael Dean born May27,1 979. Andy and Kim attend school in Perham, and they all are member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Loon Lake at Vergas.
