| Summary: | 146 PIERCE. COUNTY ANDREW PETERSON Andrew and Peter Peterson settled in Pierce County in the Hurricane Lake vicinity in 1886. They did not stay long. Andrew died about three years after they catme and Peter went first to Rolette County and from there he moved to the Peace River Valley in Canada, Avhere he still resides as far as the Avriter has learned. BYRON E. POORE Byron E. Poore came from Bird Island, Minnesota, to MinneAvaukan, N. D. before he moved, to Pierce County where he filed on a claim Avest of Rugby in 1886. He farmer here until he Avent to ScA'en Persons'in Alberta, Canada, in 1912 Avhere he died. Mr. Poore Avas married and had four children. PIERCE AND RAPELJE Gerald Pierce and J. George Rapelje located a. cattle ranch on the banks of Buffalo Lake in Pierce County in 1882 which they continued, to operate for a number of years. Gerald Pierce was the son of Governor Pierce after whom Pierce County took its name. Besides ranching in Pierce County, he Avas interested in large barns in Bismarck. It was said that the capital for these A-entures was furnished by his father, the goA'crnor. J. George Rapelje, Mr. Pierce's partner in the ranch on Buffalo L.-^-e, was of old New York Hollander stock. He was a ma" of unusual, cultui ■* and of rare intellectual attainments, a devoted student, Avidely read, and extensively traveled. He made frequent journeys to' Europe and to other parts of the globe. He came to Bismarck in the territorial days and invested very heavily in real estate in the capitol city Avhere he also* entered, the practice of laAV. He gave up his law practice about 20 years ago because of failure in health, and Avith his mother and a. sister, established a home in Italy where he resided until he died about a year ago.
