Summary:LUTGEN, NICK AND FRIEDA Nick Lutgen and Frieda Glaser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Alwin Glaser, were married June 26, 1935. They have two daughters: Betty married Keith Johnson of LaMoure, N.D., and had 5 daughters, Denice, Mrs. Darryl Johnson; Melanie, Mrs. Lynn Johnson; Tamara, Mrs. Danny Schmidt; and Michele and Stephanie, at home. Betty lives in Sequim, Wash. Their other daughter, Peggy, married Ross Smith of Marion and has two sons, Darren and Todd. Peggy is now married to Robert E. Peters. They lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, for two years, where he worked for the Navy Omega Project and Peggy worked for a doctor. They now reside in Waukegan, III. Nick passed away Oct. 8, 1965. LYSGAARD, OLAF AND ALICE Olaf and Alice Lysgaard grew up near the community of Marion, North Dakota. Olaf was born January 6, 1902, near Benson Corner, southeast of Marion. He was the son of Ole (Olaf) Lysgaard. Olaf attended the schools near Benson Corner, later coming to Marion. Alice Orpha Eidahl was born near Marion, North Dakota, on December 20, 1907, to Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Eidahl who lived on their farm 4% miles west of Marion. She attended the rural school in Saratoga Township, graduated from the Marion High School, attended Valley City Teachers College, and taught rural schools for two years. She was active in the community and church for several years. On June 6, 1928, Olaf Lysgaard and Alice Eidahl were married, continuing to live in the community for a time. They spent about seven years in Marion, where he was Standard Oil bulk agent, then purchased the home Eidahl farm, which they later sold. There are five children in the Lysgaard family, Dr. Robert, who has dental offices in Las Vegas, Nevada; Deloise (Mrs. Dick Perry) of Lincoln, Nebraska; James, pharmacist at the Veterans Hospital in Santa Monica, California; Donald, who is a physical therapist at a hospital in Santa Monica, California; and Delmer, in Williston, North Dakota. There are ten grandchildren. The past few years have been spent on the West Coast, where Olaf worked as a painter at the Washington State Blind School. Alice continued her education, and taught school for 20 years. Upon retirement some time was spent in California and now they live in their home at Williston, North Dakota. McCarthy,george and Frances George L. McCarthy, Litchville, N.D., rnarried Frances Sarbaum, Marion, N.D., at Washington, D.C, on September 17, 1943. After 8 years in the Army, George began farming on a grain and dairy farm in 1946. He farmed until 1974, when Lowell took over the farm. When McCarthys retired they moved into their new home in the city of Marion. They were blessed with three children: Mary, born at Columbus, Ga., Oct. 1,1944, married to Clarence Musland. They have a cattle ranch and grain farm at Edgeley, N.D. They have three children, DaLayne, 5; Gina, 4; and Kimberley, 1. Lowell, born at Valley City, N.D., May 8, 1947, married to Susan Warcken of LaMoure, N.D. They have two daughters, Kristi, 2V4 years, and Brenda, 9 months. They live on the home farm east of Marion. George Gene, born at Valley City, N.D., Nov. 29, 1949, married to Jan Peterson, lives at Argusville, N.D., where Jan teaches school and George is a salesman for a Fargo firm. They have one daughter, Cami. McCLEARY, BERNARD AND JOYCE Bernard was born at Marion to Ward and Luella McCleary. His wife Joyce was born at Verona to Perry and Josie Peterson. Joyce attended college and worked in Washington, D.C. for one and one-half years. Bernard and Joyce were married June 21, 1947, and have made their home here in Marion. Bernard graduated from Greenland High School, then served 41/2 years in the Army. He attended N.D.S.U., and has been active in community affairs: Director and President of the School Board, Marion Lutheran Church Council Member, and President and one of the linemen of the North Marion Country Telephone Line. Bernard and Joyce have four children: Keith, who attended college and is married to Vione Trapp; Terry, who graduated from Wahpeton State School of Science and is now employed by NCR in Devils Lake, married to Fern Haugen and has two children, Jennifer and Jason; Kenny, who is helping Bernard and Keith; and LeAnn is in the 8th grade at Marion School. Bernard and Joyce farm and Bernard also does carpenter work. McCLEARY, ELDRED AND LOUISE Eldred, son of Ward and Luella (Arduser) McCleary, was born at Marion in 1924, is living on the family farm and has farmed all his life. He also attended Refrigeration School at Minneapolis. Louise Melton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Melton of Brownwood, Texas, was born in 1935. On May 29, 1954, they were married at Fort Worth, Texas. Louise came to Marion and joined him on the farm. They have three children. Mike is in the Air Force and stationed at the Air Base at Minot, North Dakota. Gail and Donald are at home and are attending the Marion Public School. McCLEARY, KEITH AND VIONE Keith was born to Bernard and Joyce McCleary. He married Vione, daughter of Lyle and Vivian Trapp, May 27, 1967. Keith worked for Perry Roorda for three years and then attended Wahpeton SSS. Keith and Vione started farming in 1970. They now farm the place known as the old Jones farm in Meadowlake Township. They have four children: Vincent, 1968; Angela, 1969; Monte, 1971; and Dana, 1972. McCLEARY, WARD AND LUELLA Ward McCleary, born Feb. 3, 1900, at Bounderant, Iowa, passed away August 22, 1968. Ward was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson McCleary. In 1903 he moved to Hazel, S. Dak. with his parents, and in 1906 they came to North Dakota, settling on a farm in Saratoga Township near Adrian, N.D. Mr. McCleary attended Valley City Normal School. Ward served as treasurer of Manns Township for 30 years and as federal crop insurance adjuster from 1957 until his death in 1968. Luella Arduser McCleary was born to John and Margaret Arduser, October 30, 1900, at home on the old Arduser farm, presently farmed by her brother, Leonard Arduser.
