While waiting for weather to clear in order to fly to Antartica, Smith and Bill Austin rode jet boats with Bill, Jon, and Joyce Hamilton, Christchurch, New Zealand. Smith and Austin conceived of a jet boat uprun trip of the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, successfully completed in 1960. |
