Summary:National audience Avalanche dynamics and its impacts in Nunavik The study of slope dynamics continues in and around the villages of Kangiqsualujjuaq, Umiujaq, and in the Lake Wyashakimi (Lac à l'Eau-Claire) region, located east of Tursujuq National Park. The results obtained during the years 2019 and 2020 demonstrate that avalanche processes are effective in the short term from a geomorphological point of view; two avalanche regimes have been identified: one is characteristic of winter (massive snow avalanches with a tenuous morphogenic role but representing a real risk) and the other is distinctive of spring (snow avalanches loaded with rock debris, responsible for the erosion-transport-accumulation triptych, with a more spatially limited runout distance); the conditions for triggering these avalanches are currently being studied. The avalanche impact on the organisation of the village (e.g., in Kangiqsualujjuaq) has also been highlighted. These results are based on the analysis of photographs acquired by automatic devices placed near different avalanche paths, and on the diachronic analysis of aerial photographs. A study is underway to characterise the persistence of avalanche deposits, which can last from a few hours to several weeks; the link with knowledge of the risk is a research prospect. Finally, in order to enhance the information collected by automatic cameras, a study is underway to model the error produced by the cameras' thermal probe (radiation incident on the metal housing, in particular) with the meteorological data recorded in the dedicated equipment; the objective of this work is to model the temperature data from the numerous cameras deployed in Nunavik in sectors without weather stations to better recognize the actual temperature conditions.
