Late Weichselian glacial events, marine fauna and shore-lines in the coastalarea NW of Svartisen are described. During the oldest glacial event (Vassalevent), marginal moraines were deposited near the mouths of the fjords. ABølling or Older Dryas age is deduced for this event. A comprehensive Allerøddeglaciation was followed by a re-advance of local glaciers in early YoungerDryas (the Glomfjord event). As a result of strong frost-shattering along theshore and a relative stable sea-level, a distinct shore-line corresponding withthe Glomfjord event was formed along the sides of the fjords during the period11.600-10.500 years B.P.
