Geology of the Iesjav'ri-Skoganvarre area, Northern Finnmarksvidda, North Norway.

The Iesjav'ri-Skoganvarre areas is located in the northern part ofFinnmarksvidda and its underlain by Archaean-Early Proterozoic rocks. Theoldest unit, the Jer'gul Gneiss Complex, is unconformably overlain bymetasediments and metavolcanites assigned to the Vuomegiclas, Skuvvanvarriand Suol...

The Iddjajav'ri Group, thrust upon the above-mentioned rock unites, completes the Early Proterozoic rock succession. The Caddjejåkka unconformity, the Stallucåk'ka Thrust and the Stabbursdalen-Iesjav'ri Fault Zone are important geological features of the area.Correlation between the formation exposed on either side of the fault isproposed. The gneissic rocks of the area have undergone periods of eitherside of the fault is proposed. The gneissic rocks of the area have under-gone periods of deformation, emplacement of plutons and uplift prior toaccumulation of the supracrustal sequences. Subsequently, the Svecokarelianorogeny resulted in folding and westward thrusting of rock units comprisingthe gneiss complex and the supracrustal formations. A period of erosion whichlasted about 1000 million years then followed and this was succeeded by a LatePrecambrian transgression and the deposition of sediments of the Dividal Group. 36112 Article in Journal/Newspaper Finnmarksvidda North Norway NGU Open Archive (Geological Survey of Norway)
