Summary:Mastergradsoppgave i bedriftsøkonomi - Høgskolen i Bodø, 2008 This thesis pertains to franchising in Ghana. It seeks to provide the information on the stage of franchising in the economy, like a product life cycle, which goes through different stages. It is a descriptive case study which stands to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of franchising system of international business to the Ghanaian franchisees found in various industry sectors in the country using same models outlined by academics in the subject area of franchising. Ghana being "the Gate-Way to West Africa" has what it takes to attract international business organisations to invest in its business environment. It has a stable political system and happens to be the most peaceful country in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a developing country that has the potential to improve the standard of living of its people through franchising being a made of entering into an international market. But is surprise for ane to know that the country can not even boost of a single outlet of ane of the celebrated franchisors in the world which is McDonalds, it for areason such as this that the researcher has decided to investigate into the extent of franchising in his country, Ghana, a work he believes will help promote franchising in the subregion. Previous researches in franchising have been mainly focused on business format franchising, but this work covers all the types of franchising in the field of academics and tends to help bring into the knowledge of the majority of people who happen to have no knowledge about the significance of franchising and what it can contribute to societal benefits.
