Field study in ecological anthropology was done among theCaribou-Eater Chipewyan of northern Saskatchewan, Canada.Direct observation active participation was the methodology usedfor recording and analyzing their caribou hunting system. Thesubsistence activities of the Chipewyan are classified in this articleand are recorded in terms of time-space use and participantinvolvement. The five major categories of activities are :Foodgetting (FGA), food processing (FPA), sheltering (SHA), hidepreparation (HPA) and manufacturing (MA). The three principlesfor structuring systems of activities on the basis of individualvariations, particularly age and sex, are : temporal sequence ofactivities, allocation and combination of activities. The variouscategories of Chipewyan subsistence activities are organized intoa system of activities, called here the Chipewyan caribou huntingsystem.
