Description
Summary:the personality of Japanese, Americans, Italians and Eskimos, using the Sentence Completion Test [SoFUE 1979]. Statisticalanalysis indicates that there are clear and meaningful differencesbetween these ethnic groups. Considerable regional variationsin personality exist within Japan for some items examined, whereasothers vary only slightly. In general, variation is far less clearthan expected.Research data indicate that the_ kenminsei-(-p refectural- personalities)discussed frequently by the general public seem toexist, although they are not particularly distinct and should notbe overstressed. Frequently, kenminseai re merely either stereotypicimages or ideal patterns of expected behavior, rather than psychologicalpatterns.
