Description
Summary:Experiments in the Arctic (POLEX-North) were carried out in Arctic Canada during the period from November 1979 to January 1980. The main object of the experiments was to study the mechanism of variation of heat sink in the Arctic area, through observations of clouds and precipitation. The main observations were as follows : (a) Observation of fine structure of precipitating clouds by 8.6mm vertically pointing radar; (b) Observation of distribution and movement of precipitating clouds by 3.2cm PPI radar; (c) Observation of types and numbers of snow crystals on the ground by the use of the plastic replica method, microscopes and automatic recorder; (d) Sampling of new snow and deposited snow for the measurement of δ^<18> and trace elements. This paper contains only summaries of the papers in the "Observations of Clouds and Precipitation in the Arctic Canada (ed. by HIGUCHI, TAKEDA and KIUCHI, Organizing Committee for POLEX, Tokyo, 189p., 1981)".
