From the successive cultures of the isolated diatoms with agar containing various concentrations of NaCl, it is clarified that Tropidoneis laevissima is halophilic. Achnanthes brevipes v. intermedia showed a wide range of tolerance to NaCl concentration (0-25%) in agar. Navicula muticopsis had a narrow range (0-5%) of halotolerance.
