Although never as common as thecontemporary genera Retroceramus and Inoceramus, Anopaea is now known from temperate bivalve assemblages in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. It persisted from the Late Jurassic (Tithonian) to the Early Cretaceous (Neocomian), and possibly even later.
