| Summary: | The events of September 11, 2001 have created an unprecedented homeland security & defense focus for the United States. Additionally, the changing nature of military engagements as witnessed in the Gulf and Afghan theaters has necessitated significant changes to the way our nation conducts security and defense. The Naval Postgraduate School, the Navy’s Corporate University, has several major research and education thrusts in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Program areas include maritime domain defense, network and communications security, information operations, remote sensing, autonomous vehicles and post conflict reconstruction. With more than four hundred faculty and nearly fifteen hundred experienced military officer, graduate students engaged in these and other similar programs, NPS is an ideal site for research and education programs focused on the Global War on Terrorism. With support from NORTHCOM, the Department of Homeland Security, SOCOM, NETWARCOM and the Department of the Navy, these programs are growing at an extremely fast pace.
