The purpose of this artide is to analyze student' responses to the questionnaires conducted before, during, and after a series of lessons, and to examine the relationships between the student self-assessment activities and the change of their motivation for learning. Their self-assessment activities provided rich opportunities to let them recognize their own process as well as product of learning. Such opportunities led the students to realize that they can do and proceed, and further served for fostering their self-confidence and self-expectation for success. Finally, based on the results obtained, a proposal is put forward for an effective teaching with student self-assessment that aims at promoting their motivation for the learning of mathematics.
