These great challenges go well beyond the sole concerns of scientists who, more and more, associate with citizens, not only to collect data, but also to participate in the creation and implementation of research programs.Relationships at the interface between science, technology and citizenship are changing very rapidly in our society. With the development of digital technology, participatory sciences dedicated to the sea and the coast are multiplying. The pivotal role of a "participatory science coordinator" becomes essential for the proper functioning of these programs in order to mediate between the scientist and the citizen. In order to respond to the creation of new maritime professions and to ensure the professional integration of students, participatory sciences then become an additional science to be taught in universities.This article aims to present the challenges of the Teaching of Participatory Sciences (ESPAR) project dedicated to the marine environment and the coast, led by the University Research School (EUR) ISblue (Interdisciplinary graduate School for the blue planet). In the first part of this article, a state of the art of participatory science programs currently being carried out in the West is presented. After some recommendations for the development of participatory sciences dedicated to the marine world and the coast, various perspectives are made, particularly in terms of educational innovations at the university.
