The Arctic as a new breakout point for Hungarian security policy?

The study seeks to answer the question whether Hungary’s interest in the Arctic has or canhave a ground. The paper is based on the existing strategic documents that already containvague references to the articulation of Arctic interests, and on exploring the Hungarianpresence in the region, highlighting the main actors and areas of bilateral cooperation. All thiscould be a good basis for moving forward in the next decade(s), for which the acquisition ofHungarian observer status in regional organizations – and above all in the Arctic Council –could be a suitable instrument. A tanulmányban a szerzők arra a kérdésre keresik a választ, hogy Magyarországarktiszi érdekeltségének van-e, illetve lehet-e alapja. Ehhez segítségül hívják egyrészta hatályos stratégiai dokumentumokban foglaltakat, amelyekben már most is vanhomályos utalás az arktiszi érdekek artikulációjára, másrészt pedig – bemutatva a bilaterálisegyüttműködések fő szereplőit és területeit – feltárják a magyar jelenlétet.Mindez jó alap lehet a következő évtized(ek) továbblépéséhez, amelyhez megfelelőeszköz lehet a regionális szervezetekben – és mindenekelőtt az Arktiszi Tanácsban –való magyar megfigyelői státusz elnyerése.
