USBM #57882; Churn drill, owned by Layne-Northwest, used at the Bennett Mine, Pickands, Mather and Company, Keewatin, Itasca County, Minnesota, to sink a 30-inch ventilation hole about 250 feet deep. Drilled in two operations, viz., 12-inch pilot hole, followed by reaming to 30 inches. Dec. 1944 / Max S. Petersen. A churn drill is set up to drill a ventilation hole at the Bennett Mine. The Bennett underground iron mine in the Mesabi Range in Itasca County, Minnesota was operated by Pickands, Mather and Company.
