Summary:The article describes the role of creativity and its connection to communication. Creativity is defined as a crucial sphere of human activity aimed at expanding the diversity of the human world through the ability of human beings to generate new and original ideas, concepts, works of art, science, technology, and other areas of human activity. The phenomenon of creativity is a fundamental basis of communication, which makes it possible to find new ways of thinking and understanding. The research is based on the analysis of publications by Russian and foreign authors, as well as the author's experience in the field of academic migration. The novelty of the article lies in the description of Russian and foreign researchers’ methodological ideas and approaches for defining the position of creativity within the framework of cross-cultural interaction and considering this phenomenon from a psycholinguistic point of view. Attention is paid to the theory of linguistic creativity, which is of interest among linguists, philosophers, and psychologists. The author demonstrates the necessity to understand creativity as a key element in inculturation and adaptation of foreign young people and personal fulfillment as a means of human existence in the framework of cross-cultural interaction; she also provides examples of “creative practices” organized at Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov. The increasing number of academic migrants calls for creating approaches and methods of comprehensive work on adaptation aiming to adjust the person to a new reality and to encourage personal fulfillment through creative practices. Creative process is considered as a universal channel of communication, which helps to reveal common values and to understand the peculiarities of national cultures.
