Teleconnection of OLR and SST anomalies over Atlantic Ocean with Indian summer monsoon

The present study discusses the teleconnection between outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) and sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies over North Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall (ISMR). It has been found that OLR and SST anomalies over North Atlantic Ocean during the month of May...

It has been found that OLR and SST anomalies over North Atlantic Ocean during the month of May, which are the manifestations of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), show statistically significant correlations with ISMR. The index of area averaged OLR anomaly over North Atlantic Ocean has a correlation of -0.82 with ISMR for the period 1979-2000. These relationships are found to be stronger and stable during the recent years. Possible physical mechanisms of this teleconnection have also been discussed.
