Summary: | Using available field data of fog situations over the ocean, this study examines the formation and dissipation of water droplets in air. A two-dimensional steady-state boundary-layer model was developed to simulate the dynamics of momentum, energy, and species concentrations under the influence of the microphysical processes of condensation, evaporation, radiation and turbulence. Numerical solutions were obtained using a finite difference method. The sea-fog situations, which were observed in the vicinity of the Grand Banks near Newfoundland and the south shore of Hokkaido, Japan, were simulated by advancing warm moist air to a region with cold ocean current.
