English Language and Literature Includes bibliographical references (leaves 98-100) The stories in this collection raise questions about the nature of Newfoundland cultural identity. As characters oscillate physically and mentally between home and away they are forced to examine the nature of their relationship to place. They face conflicts that help them get a better understanding of their place and themselves; they also learn about gender biases in the construction of their cultural identity. These themes are examined in an accompanying essay, which looks at the collection in the context of contemporary Newfoundland literature.
