Engineering and Applied Science Bibliography: leaves 126-138. The study presents the laboratory testing of various types of soils using triaxial equipment recently established at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Sand from Hibernia area, Clayey Silt from Placentia Bay area and Silty Clay from West Coast of Newfoundland were submitted to standard monotonic triaxial tests. Isotropically consolidated undrained (CIU) compression tests, isotropically consolidated drained (CID) compression tests were performed as well as several extension tests or pore pressure controlled tests. Cyclic triaxial tests were also carried out on Sand and Clayey Silt. -- Results showed that, despite known limitations, the equipment was adequate in providing reliable geotechnical parameters. A discussion of these results and a comparison with earlier work by other researchers are presented.
