Mathematics and Statistics Bibliography: leaves 52-54. In this thesis, a brief review of various techniques of estimating diversity is given. The use of these techniques is illustrated to the fish data. The data is collected from Brazilian coast utilizing sampling techniques. In order to reduce the bias, the jackknife method is used for estimating the diversity. Furthermore, it has been shown that lognormal distribution is a suitable model to describe species abundance in certain cases.
