Summary: | Stan Dragland (1942-2022) was a prolific Canadian author with close ties to the Newfoundland arts community. After retiring, Dragland moved to St. John's where he continued his writing career. Dragland co-founded poetry publishing company, Brick Books, was the founding editor of the literary magazine Brick , and the poetry editor for publisher McClelland & Stewart. He was awarded the Gabrielle Roy Prize for Canadian Literary Criticism (1994); bpNichol Chapbook Award (2002); the Newfoundland and Labrador Rogers Cable Non-Fiction Award (2005) for his memoir Apocrypha: Further Journeys Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award for Nonfiction (2019); and in 2020, was appointed to the Order of Canada.
