The solo, secular cantata enjoyed great popularity in England during the eighteenth-century. the nineteenth century gave rise to other musical interests, however, and the solo cantata was largely abondoned. As a result, a large repertoire of attractive music exists that is almost unknown to modern audiences. today's performance will explore both the musical and social aspects of some of this forgotten repertoire.
