Description
Summary:A woven melon shaped rib basket constructed from spruce root. The basket is about 50 years old. It is thought to have been owned by a nurse employed at the International Grenfell Association. The basket has two 10 inch oval hoops tied together with line (rim and handle) and twelve tapered flat stakes (the wood for these would have been hand carved by the weaver). The ears are woven with spruce root and the hoops are bound together by weaving the ears or God's Eye (the diamond shape). The maker of this basket is unknown as the basket was acquired by Gillard's family through a sale of property in Englee, NL.
