Manuscript recipe for the crust of butter tarts. The text reads: Molasses Tarts 4 cups of flour 2 ½ tsp. cloves 2 ½ tsp cinnamon 1 tsp of ginger Mix together Cream 1 cup of butter. ¼ cup of molasses. Mix together. 2 tsp of baking soda and ¼ cup of tea. Stir in dry ingredients. Roll out on flour board Fill with jam and bake for 20 min. In moderate oven.
