Summary:Bridget lists the various types of berries and the order in which they ripen: "blackberries", "bakeapple", blueberry, "blue herts", "partridgeberries", "marshberries", cranberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants. The black crowberry (Empetrum nigrum) is locally known as the blackberry; also earthberry or heathberry. The bakeapple is the cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus). Blue herts (or hurt or hort) is one of a number of species of whortleberries or blueberries that grow in the area. The partridgeberry is the mountain cranberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) or cowberry. The marshberry is the common or small American cranberry (Oxycoccus vulgaris).(Waghorne, 1888)
