He points out some significant differences between the way things are now compared to when he was growing up. He tells stories he learned from his grandfather and his parents. He talks about his job in working in the airport. 00:09-00:55 Smith was born and raised in Hant’s Harbour, born in 1932 and till 1951 lived there, in 1952 went to St. John’s to work with the Government of Newfoundland and retired in 1989, from 1989 until now he is living in Hant’s Harbour; 00:59- 08:16 he has one brother and one sister, both of his siblings live in Hant’s Harbour, shares an interesting story about an old gentleman who lived in his community and used to fishing, reads the story about the old man and his fishing boat; 08:19- 10:09 Smith tells that in their childhood they used to enjoy these stories but now-a-days such old stories do not hold much importance because of TV, videos, he shares another funny story from his childhood memories, the story was like it was a snowy day and he was walking beside the pond, he saw a trout coming over the water and ten he found another trout, he says that it was the largest trout he ever got; 10:14- 13:05 he used to play games like cups and rubbers, made wooden strokes, in the summer used to spend most of the time in boats, went for fishing, skating, swimming, played hockey, there was no hockey field at that time; 13:07- 17:01 there were two schools like one was from kindergarten to grade 4 and the another was from grade 5 to grade 11, shares some funny stories during his school life, Mr. White was his favorite teacher, trigonometry and history were his favorite subjects; 17:06- 21:04 most of the people did fishing at that time, some people grew vegetables in summer like cabbage, potatoes but most of the people depended on fishing, Smith taught students from grade 5 to grade 11 for some time in school and paid 50 dollars per month for teaching, then there was no family ...
