McGuire, Andrea Whelan, Barry, 1946- Barry Whelan was born in St. John's on April 19, 1946. Growing up, Barry lived on Commonwealth Road in Mt. Pearl, Barnes Road in St. John's, and a house built by his father in the Goulds. Barry began his working life as a monumental mason at Muir's Marble Works in St. John's, and later worked for various airlines. He then lived in Toronto and Australia before returning to St. John's with his family. Barry has two sons, and has worked with stone throughout his life; these days, he is often found making and selling trivets and coasters.
