Summary: | This interview with Walter Tobin was recorded in 1990 for a documentary on the Battle of Beaumont Hamel. It was recorded at his home in Waldoboro, Maine. The name of the program was, “Beaumont Hamel: A Battle Remembered". It was released to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the battle in 1991. In this interview Mr. Tobin, who was actually a U.S. citizen, recalls his moving to Newfoundland from Boston, his time in the Newfoundland Regiment leading up to the July 1st battle, and reflections of how he looks back at it all. Mr. Tobin was the last surviving member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment who fought at Beaumont Hamel. The interview was conducted by Mr. Ed Coady. This was a co-production of Memorial University and Ocean Pictures Ltd.
