Topics include: the underutilized potential of the credit union in Newfoundland and Labrador to enable keeping capital and savings in the province; the development and innovation in the co-operative movement, especially worker and producer cooperatives; the prosperity and self-sufficiency of two Southern Shore communities that successfully resisted resettlement; the need to recognize that in spite of set-backs, real progress is being made; although successful models are already in place, these do not translate into planning and education process; the detrimental effects of increases in provincial ferry rates; the central importance of family; great diversity in what Newfoundlanders really want--what price are they willing to pay to ensure the survival of rural communities; aboriginal culture needs to be accepted, understood and encouraged.
