| Summary: | bakeapple n While in England in 1955 I was doing some delving into the Moravian Labrador records I came across a very different suggestion as to the origin of the word bakeapple. Unfortunately at that time I was not more than casually interested but remember quite clearly that it was stated that the early Moravian missionaries of Danish and German origin called this fruit "baeg apfel" One can easily see how this could be corrupted to become bakeapple. [_baeg_ is not the word for _bog_ in Cassell's German dict.
