want (( HH. Did people use to threaten children with anything other than Janneys? ??)) Mrs P. .sometimes. Well now in MY TIME THEY used to always tell me there was _a Boo-man_ [PT] , _Boo-man_ [PT]. We'd be frightened to death o' _the Boo-man_! HH. What would they say to you? How would they frighten you about _the Boo-man_?What would they say? Mrs P. Well nothing (sir), SAY, in particular,only,I mean to say if I was told there was a _Boo- man_ [PT] now if I was waintin' to come in (anyONE) [WOULD] say,"Now _don't go in there_! _The Boo-man'_s is there!" [PT ] , well I'd go back! Frightened away! 'fraid o' _the Boo-man_[PT]. JW. What was he supposed to look like? Mrs P. I don't know! I never seen (it) ! . 'CAUSE I WAS ('FRAID) . They didn't tell me nothing,only _the Boo-man[PT]_ ! They used to always tell me _the Boo-man_ [PT] was there! I'd never go! (I WOULDN'T) go (BECAUSE) anywhere I'd go THEY'D. oh they'd say, "Now _the Boo-man_ is there,in there! [PT] or somethin like that, SCRABBLE I'd scrabble back! . (IF) ever _I'd go where THEY didn't want [ME] to go_. . in the _dark_ or anything like that. (WHETHER!) JW. Oh he'd be in _the dark_, would he? YES YEAH.
