Summary:tilt n Paddy Power is an old man in his eighties who lives in Mobile. He tells a lot of strange stories which nobody ever believes. My father doesn't believe a word he says so it is hard to get him to tell any story he has heard from the man. I have heard my father tell one of Paddy Power's stories, but I don't think my father believes it. I have never heard the man tell it myself. Paddy Power and another man were in the woods. I think the man with him was his brother Dick. They went in to stay for the night in their _tilt_. A tilt is a house or cabin that men build in the woods to save themselves a trip home every night. It might be as much as five or six miles from the community. (over) [Reverse] On this particular night they were getting ready to have a mug- up. Dick was in the tilt and Paddy went down to the river outside to get some water. There were trees and bushes all along the river. Paddy was going to catch hold of a branch to support himself while he dipped up the water. Just as he put out his hand to catch the tree he saw a woman's hand right where he was going to put his own. I think there was a ring on the hand. He went back to the tilt and told his brother. I think the men left the tilt and walked home. Not long ago when my father was telling ghost stories, I mentioned this one. I couldn't get him to tell it. He said something like, "Don't you mind Paddy Power. He'll tell anything that suits himself". If he had told it I would probably have gotten more details. My father usually believes the ghost stories he tells. DICT CEN.
