Description
Summary:tailing n A short length of rope attaching the ring at the end of a graplin to the rode (the mooring rope) The purpose of the tailing is to insure the retrieval of the graplin if its claws become hooked in the sea-bed. The rode is tied to the claws of the graplin and attached to the opposite , the ring end, by the tailing. If the grapelin snags, the strain to retrieve it will break the tailing (which is usually made from a much smaller rope than the rode) and the graplin can then be pulled away from the direction of the graplin hooks, thus freeing it.
