Yeah. B. Yeah. JW. Would they (say). HP. Anything to frighten the youngster. B. Everything to frighten the youngster! YOU KNOW, that's the worst thing ever done: frighten YOUNGSTERS. JW. Would they say that to the child when they want to stop it going,say,to _the stage-_ _head_,or [to a well], or something like that? Would they threaten 'em then? Or would they just threaten 'em when they were _naughty_? B. I suppose. They'D ALL used(to)threaten 'em when they was._naughty_, you know,when (they didn't obey). When (they disobey) they'd threaten 'em this stuff,you know,and this _trimmin_' that they'd get,or the.you know,in the good many cases 'twas _the Devil_.was comin' after ('EE?), That was the same thing: that was_the_ _Black Man_ JW.
