The most common type appears particularly in the Conception Bay area. This mat was made in a similar manner to a regular mat, but the loops were pulled up higher when they were hooked, perhaps to an inch in length. When the mat was completed, the tops of all the loops were cut off, and a type of pile rug was the result. This mat was commonly called a "_raggedy jack_", "_rag-a-jack_", and ''_raggedy mat_". This type of mat was used primarily at the DNE-cit G. M. Story JAN 1976 JH JAN 1976 Used I and Sup Used I 2 Used I There is a large square bracket surrounding lines 4-9 of the quotation; the first two sentences are not used in the dictionary and the used portion stops at the period in the last line; there are marks at the beginning and the end of the used portion.
