Summary:raggedy a There were several variations to the normal type of mat that was commonly hooked. The most common type appears particularly in the Conception Bay area. This mat was made in a similar manner to a regular mat, but the loops were pulled up higher when they were hooked, perhaps to an inch in length. When the mat was completed, the tops of all the loops were cut off, and a type of pile rug was the result. This mat was commonly called a "_raggedy jack_", "_rag-a-jack_", and ''_raggedy mat_". This type of mat was used primarily at the DNE-cit G. M.
