I left Brigus for Bacon Cove to interview the Lewis family about the room I used the previous season, but while I was at Conception Harbour I met Capt. Patrick St John, and on telling him/ my business, he informed me that there was another room for sale at Cutthroat belonging to Mr. Matthew Ryan, whose son had died during the winter, and Mr. Ryan himself being too old to (over) [reverse] to continue fishing. Capt. Pat went to Mr. Ryan's home and asked if he had decided to sell his property at Labrador. Mr. Ryan replied, "Yes if I can get a purchaser." I then asked Mr. Ryan what property he had, and what price he wanted for it. He named what he had there, a fishing-stage, small hold (about 300 quintals fish), a bulley, or fishing boat, to carry about 16 quintals, a dwelling-house, puncheons and a good bawn for spreading about 300 quintals fish.
