Summary:vamp _Vamps_: A pair of short stockings knitted by local people usually using [-]local[-] wool from local sheep. The foot part is identical to the foot of any sock but the leg part extends up only about two or three inches above the ankle. It is usually worn over a regular stocking above the ankle. It is usally worn over a regular stocking when a person wants to keep his feet warm. (over) [Reverse] They are almost always worn in a rubber boot.
