Summary:outside n Settler families always regarded the area around their own homes as their own land and water. They also considered that trap lines set on the "inside" for fine furs, belonged to the trapper. On the "outside," however, on and around the outer islands as well as on the sea ice, trapping was more of a free-for-all. Similarly, caribou hunting on the mainland was not confined to personal or family areas: anyone went where he thought the hunting would be good. PRINTED ITEM SEP 1979 G. M.
