| Summary: | net Previous to 1763, the common method was by netting, in"tickles" along the coast; and l'Abbe Raynal says that at about this time "English fishermen were in the habit of repairing to certain favourable places in order to capture seals in the way referred to," i.e., by nets. This method is still employed on some parts of the northern coast of the island and down the Labrador.
