More commonly "slide path" at St. Joseph's,i.e. a winter path (usually across bogs & ponds, where possible, to take advantage of level ground & ice to make hauling easier,) on which by hand-slide and horse slide wood was "hauled" to the "bank". - The "bank" being the shore. To have one's wood "on the bank" was to have all one's cutting and hauling done for the winter. Then only the "coasting" remained.
