bearing _Folk Language_ : A _Bearin' Stik_" When a person was carrying a turn (long load) of wood on his back or shoulder pointing in the direction in which he was walking eg. [see illustration]; if the load were too heavy or almost too heavy on one shoulder (his left shoulder _always_ because it was considered bad luck to carry a turn on the right shoulder) he would use a bearin stik on his right shoulder --> Yes DNE-cit DICT CEN.
